Watercolours

Daniel Smith Extra Fine Watercolours

Daniel Smith is my go-to watercolour range. The pigment load is excellent, the colours are vibrant without being garish, and several of the earth tones granulate beautifully on rough paper — which suits ink and wash work perfectly. I don’t use every colour in the range; a limited palette of five or six goes a long way.

Paper

Arches Watercolour Paper

Paper makes more difference than most people expect. Arches is cold press, 100% cotton, and handles multiple wet washes without warping or buckling. The texture also plays nicely with ink — lines sit on top cleanly rather than bleeding into the wash. I use the 300gsm blocks for most work.

Brushes

Fuumi Brushes

I use Fuumi brushes for the wash work. Good spring, holds a decent amount of water, and the point is reliable enough for smaller detail. They’ve held up well with repeated use.
